CSG has disclosed an agreement worth more than €100 million to supply components for Poland’s expanding 155mm artillery ammunition programme, deepening the industrial link between CSG Polska and Polish manufacturer Zakłady Metalowe Dezamet.
The agreement covers pyrotechnic components and subassemblies used in artillery fuzes. It was signed on 24 July and announced by CSG on 11 August, adding another upstream supply commitment to Poland’s effort to increase serial ammunition output.
Dezamet, part of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa, specialises in artillery, mortar, and grenade-launcher ammunition. CSG and the Polish ammunition industry have worked together for several years, including technology and know-how transfers that support Polish production of 155mm ammunition for systems including the Krab self-propelled howitzer.
The latest order matters at the component level because expanding artillery output depends on more than shell-body production. Fuzes, pyrotechnics, energetic materials, propellant, filling, inspection, and final assembly all have to reach compatible production rates, and a shortage in a comparatively small subassembly can constrain an otherwise available manufacturing line.
Poland has already placed large multi-year ammunition contracts behind that expansion. A December 2023 implementation agreement between the PGZ-Amunicja consortium and Poland’s Armament Agency was valued at nearly PLN 11 billion and runs from 2024 to 2029. A further agreement signed in May 2026 covers several hundred thousand artillery ammunition sets and is valued at more than PLN 13.5 billion, with financing secured through the European Union’s SAFE programme.
Those orders give manufacturers demand visibility, but they also expose bottlenecks further upstream. Artillery fuzes combine precision mechanical parts, pyrotechnic elements, controlled assembly processes, and repeatable testing, while energetic materials require specialist handling and tightly managed production conditions. Increasing final assembly without raising capacity in those supporting processes simply moves the constraint elsewhere.
Dariusz Szlęzak, president of the management board of Zakłady Metalowe Dezamet, said: “Continuing our cooperation with CSG represents an opportunity for our company to increase its production capacity.”
The agreement also sits inside a broader relationship between PGZ and CSG. A strategic partnership framework signed in March covers further cooperation, while CSG has said it is prepared to discuss additional technology transfer, new production facilities, and joint commercial activity. Those proposals are not yet equivalent to new factories or firm orders, but they indicate that the component contract is being treated as part of a longer industrial programme.
For Poland, the immediate production challenge is synchronisation. Shell bodies, fuzes, explosives, propellant, packaging, acceptance testing, and final assembly have to arrive in the right sequence if contracted volumes are to translate into stocked ammunition. Large procurement frameworks can justify investment, but they cannot eliminate the qualification time required for new suppliers, new processes, or substituted materials.
The manufacturing consequences extend into quality assurance as well as output. Ammunition components have to remain interchangeable across serial lots, which puts pressure on process control, inspection records, traceability, and supplier documentation as volumes increase. Scaling a line too quickly without matching test and quality capacity can create rework or acceptance delays that erase part of the intended production gain.
Cross-border supply can therefore act as a bridge while national capacity expands. It allows serial production to increase before every manufacturing step has been duplicated domestically, while giving Polish suppliers time to absorb technology and qualify additional capability. The trade-off is that resilience still depends on regional suppliers meeting schedule, quality, and volume requirements.
Production planning also has to account for inventory buffers. A component plant running close to maximum utilisation leaves less room to recover from maintenance interruptions, rejected batches, or delayed raw materials, so output targets depend on resilience inside the factory as well as headline nameplate capacity.
That is particularly relevant for 155mm ammunition, where European governments are seeking higher output from a supply base that has to scale several interdependent processes at once. Metalworking capacity is only one part of the equation; energetic materials, fuzes, propellant, test infrastructure, and specialist labour have their own investment cycles and qualification requirements.
For Dezamet, the €100 million-plus agreement secures part of that upstream flow as Poland’s ammunition commitments move deeper into serial production. For CSG, it embeds the group more firmly in a Polish programme whose demand is already underwritten by multi-year procurement. The next measure is less dramatic than another contract announcement: whether qualified components arrive at a rate that allows those larger ammunition orders to be manufactured on schedule.
