Hensoldt North America has received a corrected $65.503m US Army contract for Eyesafe Laser Rangefinders with containers after the government amended both the value and award date carried in an earlier notice. The correct award date is 11 September 2026 and the revised maximum value is $65,503,020.
The original contract announcement, published in August, listed Kelvin Hughes LLC, doing business as Hensoldt North America, against a $57.3m award. The correction increases the recorded ceiling by just over $8.2m, or approximately 14%, while leaving the disclosed procurement scope unchanged.
The August notice remains the source for the underlying contract structure. It identifies a five-year firm-fixed-price requirement covering Eyesafe Laser Rangefinders with containers, procured on a sole-source basis for the US Army. Defense Logistics Agency Weapons Support in Warren, Michigan, is the contracting activity under contract SPRDL1-26-D-0061.
The earlier notice also identified fiscal 2026 Army working-capital funding and gave 16 August 2032 as the performance completion date. The September correction does not change those fields, so it should be read narrowly: the government has formally replaced an incorrect award date and value rather than announcing a different rangefinder programme.
That distinction matters editorially and industrially. The underlying requirement was publicly visible before this sourcing window, but the official record of when the contract was awarded and how large it is changed on 11 September. The correction is therefore the new development.
Eye-safe laser rangefinders are well-established military sensors used to determine distance by measuring the return time of emitted laser energy. In target-location equipment, range information can be combined with bearing, elevation, position, optical or thermal imagery, and digital communications to create coordinates for reconnaissance, fire support, surveillance, and other battlefield functions.
Modern rangefinding equipment increasingly operates as a component within wider sensor and command networks rather than as an isolated optical instrument. Handheld and mounted target-location systems can combine laser ranging with digital magnetic compasses, thermal cameras, GPS or alternative navigation inputs, communications equipment, and software that moves coordinates into fire-control or command systems.
The Hensoldt notice does not identify which Army platform or target-location system will receive the equipment. It also provides no range specification, wavelength, optical configuration, unit quantity, delivery schedule, or manufacturing location. Those omissions rule out assigning the award to a particular sight, vehicle, reconnaissance system, or soldier equipment programme without further evidence.
The reference to containers is equally explicit but undefined. The contract describes Eyesafe Laser Rangefinders supplied with containers, but does not specify whether those are transport cases, storage containers, complete equipment kits, or packaging associated with a larger system. The wording should therefore remain unchanged rather than being translated into a more specific equipment configuration.
The sole-source structure indicates that competition was restricted under the applicable acquisition authority, but the published notice does not contain the underlying justification. Intellectual property, qualification status, compatibility with existing equipment, configuration control, or another technical consideration could all support restricted sourcing, but none is identified publicly in the contract announcement.
That makes the corrected ceiling one of the more useful industrial details available. An increase of more than $8m changes the scale attributed to the programme and potentially the anticipated workload across optical components, laser assemblies, electronics, housings, testing, calibration, packaging, and support.
For a sensor manufacturer, maintaining production over a five-year procurement also involves more than assembling finished rangefinders. Optical and laser components have to remain available, electronic assemblies require configuration control, test equipment must remain calibrated, and completed units have to meet repeatable performance and safety standards throughout the contracting period.
The long completion horizon through August 2032 suggests that delivery and support will be spread over several years rather than compressed into a single production batch, although the contract notice does not disclose annual quantities or ordering profiles. Individual orders or DLA procurement records will be needed to establish that pattern.
The September correction therefore sharpens the commercial picture without adding a new technical specification. Hensoldt North America holds a five-year Army rangefinder vehicle with a corrected ceiling of $65.503m, while the precise equipment configuration and delivery quantities remain undisclosed. The administrative amendment is narrow, but an $8.2m correction is large enough that getting the record right matters.
